We’re excited to bring to you our latest Life at TXO interview where we shine a light on different members of our team. The aim of these fun interviews is for our wonderful partners to get to know us on a more personal level and get a feel for what it’s like to work at TXO.

Let us introduce Andy Martin – our amazing Service Sales Manager!

When did you join TXO and can you describe your typical week?

It was early February 2018 when I first climbed the famous stairs up to the TXO office, and I’ve never looked back since.

A typical week for me involves a considerable amount of internal communication, whether that’s with warehouse staff on inbound resale stock and recycling, our service delivery team regarding ongoing and planned deinstallation work, or even other Asset Recovery Managers to discuss how we can better serve our clients.

But beyond all that, the essential and most enjoyable part of my week is speaking with customers, providing them with detailed progress reports on their ongoing revenue streams, working with them on achievable sustainability goals and providing first-class service every step of the way.

How has your career progressed since working at TXO?

Honestly, like nothing I could have imagined. I started in business development, which was a completely different role than anything I had already undertaken in my career. I found it extremely challenging, but an excellent way to get to grips with the full portfolio of services offered by TXO. Teaming up with account managers was an efficient way to learn the ins and outs of asset recovery and our complementary services. I then moved into a services sales manager role that I currently occupy. I have found this to be incredibly rewarding, working with some of the largest players in our industry.

What do you like about working at TXO?
  1. I genuinely love the team spirit shown across all departments and enjoy liaising with multiple people to get varied projects delivered to our customers.
  2. I enjoy the excitement that comes from the scale of the projects we work on.
  3. I am constantly learning new things, both from colleagues and customers.
What is it that you love about what we do?

The focus in society on sustainability is something that resonates with me on a personal level. We simply can’t carry on with the same attitude that we currently have – use once and throw it away. And that’s what I love about TXO. Working with our customers to re-use their surplus equipment when there is nothing wrong with it, and if there is, offering them the possibility of repairing it. Being able to do this on the scale we do is a fantastic thing to be part of.

If you were our CEO for the day, what one change would you bring about?

Electric car chargers at work, and an EV rental scheme for employees!

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

I’m a pretty open book most of the time and I think I tell people most things. I’m colour-blind, I donate blood platelets and was once a qualified highland dancing instructor. I’m also very proud to say I achieved my gold Duke of Edinburgh award, and am also a recipient of a Prince Philip medal.

What’s your favourite flavour crisps?

It’s got to be salt and vinegar, hasn’t it?

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

Being somewhat green-fingered, you’d probably find me out in the garden, pottering away in my VegTrugs. I’ve gone all out this year with potatoes, leeks, runner beans, radishes and lettuce all on the way!

Which of our brand values resonates with you the most? And why?

Trusted – there’s no better feeling than positive feedback from a client at the end of a project, knowing that we are seen as a trusted partner that can deliver time and time again.

What’s your funniest TXO memory?

A business trip to Saudi Arabia 6 weeks before my wedding put me right out of my comfort zone. After the first 24 hours though I was acclimatised and really enjoyed meeting our clients in the region. It didn’t get off to the greatest start though – upon arrival in Riyadh, I couldn’t see my suitcase on the luggage carousel and believed that my luggage hadn’t arrived. Only after all the other passengers had left and there was one suitcase left that had been going round and round for ages did I realise that it was indeed mine – I simply hadn’t recognised it due to my aforementioned colour-blindness! Needless to say, my colleague wasn’t best pleased!
