How horse therapy sessions are helping local children

We’re incredibly proud to support good causes in the communities where we live and work. One of these fantastic partnerships is with The Charlie Taylor Jay Foundation, less than 2 miles away from our MMX site in Solihull.

With a dedicated team of volunteers, the foundation self-funds and runs the CGM Youth Club to support local kids of the community with their mental health and well-being.

This autumn we’re delighted to have gotten involved with a number of horse therapy sessions aimed specifically at helping with the children’s anxiety. You can hear all about the mane event below! 🐴🍁

How does horse therapy work?

During the sessions, the children learn how to engage in activities with the horses such as bonding, grooming, leading, and completing obstacle courses. It all happens under the supervision of trained professionals at a local stable.

The horses create a calm and peaceful environment for the children, away from their daily life and the stresses they may be experiencing. They can learn so much and develop skills to help with emotional regulation, self-confidence, and responsibility.

Straight from the horse’s mouth…

Here are some snaps of the kids getting stuck in. Their smiles say everything. 😀👍

About The Charlie Taylor Jay Foundation

The Charlie Taylor Jay Foundation was set up after the tragic loss of Charlie, a 15-year-old from Cheswick Green village, on 4th November 2017. The foundation’s aim is that by providing more support, understanding and education, tragedies like this will never happen again. The foundation consists purely of volunteers and their main focus is, and always will be, the mental health and well-being of the community’s youth.

The CGM Youth Club, which is organised by the foundation, comes together on Friday evenings at the local Village Hall. They hold workshops and enrichment activities for the kids of the community, focusing on issues the youth of today face including anxiety, self-harm and knife crime. Besides their amazing horse therapy sessions, the club offers a wide range of activities to engage, educate and support the kids. This includes football training, self-defense, arts and crafts, food tastings prepared by a volunteer chef, special guest speakers, games, and so much more.
